Life Hack: How to Live Long

“Honour your father and mother”–which is the first commandment with a promise” Ephesians 6:2 (NIV).

The promise is that you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God will give you. Not in some “afterlife”, but here in this land. The apostle was referencing Moses in Exodus 20:12.

Let us say you have not yet wrapped your head around immortality. That God’s perfect will is that you will have life and have it in abundance. That you have the god-kind-of-life in you and that you do not have to expire from this world. Perhaps you have also not yet fully been convinced that the same Spirit who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead, has found permanent residence in you.

Then you should at least hold on to this promise “You will live a long, full life.” That is, a long life that is full of meaning and purpose.

A lot of men and women of God have checked-out from this world at the end of their race. They ran amazing races. That should be your goal and hope at a minimum. That you will not check-out from this world until you have completed that which God has ordained you to fulfill. With a lot of people passing on this year, we cannot but run to the word of God to hear what His promises are regarding life, and there is peace to be found in Him regarding this.

Like the apostle Paul, we should be able to say “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” Philippians 1:21. And then be able to continue from there to say “I don’t know what to choose. I could keep on living and doing something useful.” Philippians 1:22 (Contemporary English Version). We might not be ready for this kind of truth as the church, but the apostle believed he had a choice between continuing to live or to lay down his life. If he lived it had to be for the glory of God and he was to do something fruitful and if he died, it also had to be for the glory of God. Either way, in life or death, it had to be for the glory of God. If you were to die today (God forbid), would it be for the glory of God?

The apostle believed in more than just long life, he literally believed he could choose between life and death. He was already talking about eternal life (but that’s a John 3:16 story for another day). Perhaps we are not there yet, but what we know now can unlock the promises of God for long life!

This text gives us a simple principle God has set up in place, which will give us long life, guaranteed. The apostle says this is the first commandment that comes with a promise, so we can rest assured in its veracity: “Honour your father and mother.” That’s a life hack.

Discerning of human spirits: Part 3 (Fruit-to-Tree dimension)

I have to admit up front that the content of this article leaves a lot to be desired, but it is not for lack of trying on my part. The constant challenge I have is to put down in words, what I have personally learned and experienced spiritually. And do that in a way that can be reliably traced back to scripture (and not just be based on my individual experiences). Furthermore, the challenge is to organise the article in a way that facilitates understanding, does not over-simplify complicated spiritual truths, not make it too academic to a point where it loses the spiritual weight it carries and ultimately be concise while at it. This is what keeps the articles I write a going concern. There is always more to explain, there are often more questions which spring up by the end and it is what keeps me writing. Hence I also view this challenge as a blessing.

Since we are exploring how discerning of human spirits works, I cannot start this article without a brief discourse about the human spirit. The spirit of a person is who they really are, it is their true nature. Their nature then births and drives all of their motives and actions. In other words, if you look at a person’s actions, you are merely looking at a secondary element in this whole spiritual equation, the primary source is the spirit. So knowing and understanding the nature of their spirit, through this process we call discernment, is important. If the spirit is the tree and their actions and results are the fruit, some interesting deductions can be made about who they are.

You may apply a reverse engineering process and look at the actions of a person, which are fruit, to determine what kind of person they are, the tree. I call this the “fruit-to-tree” dimension (yes I am coining some of these spiritual concepts as I go along). I find this biblical tree-fruit analogy to be useful in understanding and explaining spiritual discernment. The limitation of this fruit-to-tree method is that people act out of character sometimes. They may disguise their true nature behind seemingly upright actions. As the bible says in 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions” So the apostles were very much aware of this truth that people may act contrary to their true nature.

Another interesting text that illustrates that they were aware of this truth is found in Acts 16:16 onwards, where they meet a girl who was possessed by a spirit of divination which enabled her to predict the future and made her slavemaster a fortune. The apostle records that “She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” Act 16:17. This was the truth, but it was contrary to her true nature. It was an outward exhibition meant to disguise her true nature. The bible says “She kept this up for many days. Finally, Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.” So once more we see that the Apostle Paul was aware that people sometimes act contrary to their true nature. Looking at the fruit to determine the tree, would not have been ideal there. But let us first look at an ideal situation for the fruit-to-tree type of discernment.

The bible says “Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. By their fruit, you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes or figs from thistles?” How do we know that the bible is referring to the nature of the human spirits of these false prophets? Well, the text is clear, it contrasts between the outwards display and the impression these prophets paint (with their actions and results) as opposed to their true nature which is inward (their spirit). It is essentially telling us that by looking at a person’s outwards exhibition, we can classify them. We can look at their actions and results, and notice that they do not resemble anything that is ordained by God.

These are situations where you hear, for example, someone speaking against consulting the dead. But you later find out that they have been secretly consulting necromancers and spiritualists when no one was watching. And that they have built their whole spiritual journey on this perversion. Or someone murdering and saying God commanded them to do so. The actions and results of their life do not align with the word of God. It is easy to see that they have not been empowered by God all along. All the preaching they were doing was just sheep’s clothing. A mask they were wearing to hide the true condition of their spirit.

One thing that is important to note about this text though, is that it says these false prophets come wearing sheep’s clothing. A lot of false prophets are actually not on pulpits, many of them are pretending to be ordinary members of the church. That brother who is seemingly blessed during preaching and stands at the back of the church could be the same person taking stock of the members, seeing who they could win to their side to criticize the pastor or leadership of the church. They could be the same person casting doubts on the fitness of the pastor to lead or the spirituality of the church leadership members, sowing division and confusion amongst the members of the church, or the body of Christ in general. Such people’s evil ‘ministry’ should not be underestimated.

I have noted two wolves in recent times, who are wearing sheep’s clothing on social media but are on a mission to destroy the faith of many Christians and create a barrier for those considering to give their lives to Christ to find it difficult to do so. What they do not know is that they will not prevail against the Church of Jesus Christ.

Other than people disguising their true nature behind righteous actions, the other limitation of the fruit-to-tree method to discernment is that it may take a long time. In some instances, it may take years before a person’s true nature is revealed, because no matter how long it takes, eventually, a person’s life will bear fruit according to the true nature of their spirit. However, by the time this big revelation happens, a lot of damage could have been done to those following this person or being discipled by them.

Do not make any mistake, this is a very spiritual process. You need the Holy Spirit and knowledge of the Word of God to be able to realise that the actions and results of a person’s life are inconsistent with being one with God. You may wonder why after a huge revelation of a false teacher or prophet, there are still people following that individual. It is because it is not just a mental exercise. No amount of Journalism, News, Facebook posts, or PR can deliver a person and open their eyes to such deception, only the truth revealed by the Spirit of God can.

Another kind of discernment is what I call the “tree-to-fruit” dimension. Using this method you can identify the true nature of a person’s spirit independent of the actions and results of their life. This is the method the Lord Jesus used with the fig tree. He identified the tree first and determined which fruit it ought to bear, failing to find such fruit He then cursed it. And that is why it is coined the story of the fig tree i.e. “Jesus curses a fig tree”, even though the tension of that incident is in the fact that He could not find any fruit. Let us use this bible text in Mark 11:12-25 to explore the “tree-to-fruit” dimension next… (I know I have barely scratched the surface here, but for the sake of conciseness this text has to be continued in the next article. Stay tuned!)

Discerning of human spirits: Part 2 (spiritual real-estate)

I want to start part two of discerning of human spirits by clarifying that there is a difference between your spirit and the spirit of God in you. You can think of Him as the fourth man joining your spirit, soul, and body. The bible says “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12. I had previously shared that initially, God had two elements when He created man, the breath of life (spirit) and the body made of the dust of the earth. It was when this breath of life came into contact with this body that a third element called the soul came about. It is the spirit that carries the nature of God and controls the body, through the soul.

And it is thus usually difficult to practically separate the spirit from the soul. But the bible says that the word of God is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, making it possible to create a space of distinction between the spirit and the soul. See that? There is a gap between the spirit and the soul, which the word of God can expose.

Where that space between the spirit and the soul is, is where the spirit of God takes residence. That is exactly where His dwelling place is in a person. For those who are possessed by other disembodied spirits, that is also where they take residence. That is a position from which God can move information between your spirit and your soul, empowering the spirit to be dominant over your soul and body. A person whose spirit is controlled by the spirit of God from this position we say He is under the influence of the Holy Spirit. It is no longer Him that lives, but God lives through them, you can read Galatians 2:20 to hear what the apostle has to say about this.

Perhaps it would be prudent if I mention at this point that a born again Christian’s spirit is regenerate, in a sense of being completely new in nature and essence. If a disembodied spirit were to come in as a fourth man, it is illegal for such a spirit to possess the spirit of such a man. It can only oppress the person’s spirit so that they can no longer hear clearly from God or so that they are unable to overcome the evil commands of such a fourth man. But if a person is not born again, a disembodied spirit can legally possess the spirit of such a person, and this is what we would call a possession. In a nutshell, there is a difference between oppression and possession by a disembodied spirit such as a demon.

You can think of possession as having a title deed of that spirit-soul gap, and oppression as having a lease. At any point, a Christian can decide that the evil spirit’s lease has lapsed and it is time for it to check out, and it will have no choice but to check out! In the book of Luke 11:24 we find a perfect illustration of this, it reads “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’” The Bible here uses the same comparison of a house to explain the spirit-soul gap where the spirit resides.

When we deal with casting out of disembodied spirits such as impure spirits, you will see how as a landlord you can make the environment uncomfortable for such a spirit, and have it check out and cancel the lease agreement on its own, without ‘calling fire’ or ‘the name of Jesus three times’. If the demon was cast out of a dry place because it was dry, it means a demon, just like a tenant, cannot stay in an environment that is unfavourable for it. Here’s my sermon within a sermon “May you create an uncomfortable environment for any contrary spirit in your life through the word of God!”

When we are discerning human spirits we are not just trying to understand the status of the spirit in as far as its regenerate nature, but we are also trying to understand the nature of the spirit that is occupying the spirit-soul gap within an individual. Immediately you hear things like “He only does this when He is drunk, he is not like this when he is sober”, “She is out of control when she is angry”, “My kids are well behaved when they do not hang around those other kids”, then you need to realise that you are supposed to look at two spirits at the same time, the nature of the spirit of this person. And the nature of the fourth spirit controlling their spirit.

You might have to deal with the spirit of this person, lead them to a place where they can have their spirit born again. This will take away the title-deed from the strongman in their life. Moving them from possession to oppression. The last bit is to help them to transform their life into an uncomfortable environment for evil by renewing their mind with the word of God. Just as the bible says “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind” Romans 12:2.

You may ask HOW? How do we distinguish spirits? That is where I will start my next article. But for now, the same letter to the Romans gives us a bit of an understanding of the HOW if we read it in full, it says in the CSB version, “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Discernment requires the renewal of the mind through the Word of God. This will enable you to think the way God thinks, love what He loves, hate what He hates, see the way He sees. In the absence of this renewal of the mind and the lens of God’s love covering your eyes, everything will seem suspect to you. The bible says “To the pure, all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. Indeed, both their minds and their consciences are defiled.” Titus 1:15.

Discerning of spirits has been wrongly perceived as discerning of evil spirits for the longest of time, precisely because if your mind is only filled with teachings on evil spirits, that is all you will be able to see. You will see the fingerprints of an evil spirit everywhere you look. Instead of seeing the magnitude of heavenly creatures on your side. Teaching on casting out of demons, must be overwhelmingly outweighed by teachings on sending angels and discerning the presence of angels for example. The same goes for those who think discerning of human spirits is only for discerning false prophets. All that does is help them spot the elements of the false prophetic in everyone, and they cannot list more than ten genuine prophets. That is a serious problem! This is when you are trying to discern through a lens (mind) that is not renewed.

If your discernment is wholesome, it should be able to point out the genuine and the fake with the same level of clarity. I have read a lot and listened to a lot of teachings talking about “the gift of discernment” but true discernment cannot even be classified as a gift, because how do we call a renewed mind a gift? The real gift here is the Holy Spirit in your spirit-soul gap empowering you to renew your mind, the result of which is being able to distinguish between that which is of God and that which is not.

Love and Blessings to you!!

Day 21: Discerning of Spirits: The human spirit – Part 1

Everything has its genesis in the spiritual realm. The material world is a manifestation of what has already been created spiritually and that is why we need to understand not only the spiritual realm but spirits too. You need to understand spirits because spiritual events do not just happen spontaneously, there are spiritual agents behind every spiritual event. This understanding of spirits, knowledge of spirits, or the ability to distinguish spirits, is what is popularly known as discernment or discerning of spirits.

I believe the order in which you study spirits is important. I have discovered that the popular way of starting with demonic spirits is rudimentary and often leads to an unhealthy hypersensitivity towards demonic spirits or evil spirits in general. This is often at the expense of understanding other kinds of more important spirits that are divine in their essence, hence I want to start with studying the human spirit. In this article, I will lay a foundation of discerning human spirits, by firstly looking at the composition of a human being and the mystery of the nature of knowledge.

At the risk of repeating this information to those who have been following my series, please allow me to start by explaining the triune nature of human beings. In the beginning, God had two elements at His disposal to create a man. He had the dust of the ground through which He made the body and His breath of life. The bible paints a picture that God subsequently breathed into man and when this spirit came into contact with the body a third intermediary element came about, which we now call the soul. Hence “man became a living soul” Genesis 2:7

The spirit was the actual man, the soul was the intermediary through which the man could interact with the body, and the body was the entity through which the man could interact with the garden entities. Each of these human elements had senses through which they could know things. The spirit had senses, the soul had its senses and the body had its senses, perhaps the most obvious of all senses because we can see them. All of these can be thought of as transmitters of information. From the spiritual, to the soul and then to the body and back.

The way in which you know whether it is night or day is through the senses of your body, primarily the eyes, which discern the amount of light from the sun. But internally, your soul has its senses which are not so obvious which can discern time (sometimes attributed to your biology as your internal biological clock), and I want to submit also that your spirit has a way of telling time. And how your spirit tells time does not rely on the senses of your body, nor your soul but its senses. It is an understanding of time like that which the Sons of Issachar had “men [who] understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take.” 1 Chro 12:32. I want to bring you to this understanding from the onset that there are different entity levels through which we can gain information and thus different levels at which we can KNOW (or discern).

There is knowledge at a level of the material, things we know at the level of the soul and then those we know in our spirit. There is information that is imprinted in your brain, like telling your heart muscles to contract and relax or your eyes to blink. Things that you know and discern in your soul, consciously or subconsciously, such as emotions. That you are happy, you love something or someone. Similarly, things that are at a level of logic and reasoning, or knowing that a situation is stressful. And ultimately there are things you can know through your spirit, which I call your real KNOWER, which we will look at a bit more in-depth. But before that let us look at knowledge and knowing.

The bible and many other spiritual denominations often speak of knowledge as light. The apostle, for example, says “For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Cor 4:6. He talks about how God shined the light out of the darkness. I want us to look at this metaphor of light as knowledge because it reveals a lot about the kinds of knowledge. It tells us there was a kind of light hidden in darkness, this light shined on our hearts and only then did God torch the Sun and then He illuminated the moon. See that!? Please follow me carefully as I review this powerful revelation and make it practical.

Whilst you were in darkness as a fetus, there was a kind of light that was shining in there. The same type of light that enabled you to suckle without any tutor. That light which shined in that darkness eventually enabled you to cry when you were hungry or had a discomfort without anyone teaching you how to cry. Where did that light go!? Perhaps you are also unfortunate like many of us, whom the Sun and the Moon’s light in the form of education systems then wiped all of that knowledge away from you. Can you think of what knowledge you were born with that the education system took away from you?

My biological dad is a great fine artist. As early as I can remember when I saw him draw I also began drawing. He never sat me down for a lesson. In fact, those who know me, know that I grew up mostly without my dad. It just came naturally to me. But why am I not a career artist today? Is there a reason why Billionaires abandon mainstream education systems just before they become Billionaires and go on to create education paradigms for their kids that are far removed from mainstream education systems? I am asking YOU as a spirit. Where did YOUR light that shined in your beginning darkness go? Just a thought, may God help us!

Before some of you start thinking perhaps this is some weird new-age knowledge, let me call upon this ancient knowledge recorded by Prophet Moses in Genesis 1:1-7 so that we can look at the order of creation. On day 1 God said let there be light, and that light separated the darkness from light. On day 2 atmospheres are created and divided from oceans. On day 3 God created plants and all vegetation and they managed to grow, sustained by the light created on day 1. It was only on day 4 when God torched up the Sun, Moon, and the stars. I hope you can see and appreciate that before this light called the sun, there was an even greater light that sustained life. John speaks of this life-giving light which was in the beginning and says he was merely making an announcement about this light, but he was not this light. He was preaching because “The true Light who gives light to every man was coming into the world.” John 1:9.  There is power in unorganised knowledge a.k.a. indigenous knowledge (I will call this the moons and the stars), there is power in organised knowledge a.k.a. sciences (I will call these the sun), but there is a greater power in spiritual knowledge and in the knowledge of Christ (I will call this the light before the light).

In comparison to spiritual knowledge, science is reduced to documented ignorance. The apostle says to the Corinthians “For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” 1 Corinthians 1:19-20. Up to so far, I hope I have developed in you an awareness that in order to understand human beings we cannot rely on science alone. It is the lowest form of light we can shine upon a person to truly discover who they are because people are spirits. And since human beings are spirits, to understand them you need to understand the spirit behind their actions and be able to distinguish between those spirits.

We can conclude by saying the highest form of discernment is spiritual discernment. But since your spirit controls your body through the mediation of the soul. We will also look at the role of your soul and body in spiritual discernment.

I now feel a bit more comfortable with the foundation I have laid. I have barely scratched the surface in discerning human spirits. Let us meet in the next article! I really appreciate you for taking the time to interrogate my introductory thoughts on discerning of human spirits. Love and Light to you!

Day 14: My thoughts on progressive revelation and the so called Déjà vu

It is important to be faithful with each word God gives you and obey it because if you are faithful with one He will entrust you with more. The context of the Bible text from which that principle comes is that of being faithful with worldly riches so that God can trust you with true (divine) riches, it can be found in Luke 16:10-11. I have seen people step into situations, realising they have been in that scenario before or that it seems they have already seen that event before, and they call it déjà vu.

Mainstream science has its explanations for déjà vu, but my conviction about what has happened in a majority of cases, is that their spirit might have picked up the event in advance, impressed it upon their soul, it was stored in their memory and at that very moment, it is being communicated to them through their emotions or feelings. Although they would have dismissed it as nothing or were not paying attention enough to make anything of it when it was first communicated to them. We need to learn to take even the smallest things we hear God say to us seriously, obey them, or document them if we cannot seem to make complete sense out of them. So that we don’t end up reducing these often spiritual experiences to a so called Déjà vu.

Our growth in revelation is gradual as I had previously explained, but also, a revelation in itself is often progressive. God often reveals things to us bit by bit until we get a better and fuller picture of what He is saying to us. One way I act on the seemingly small things I perceive the Lord communicating with me is that I write them down or do voice notes of them. Through the process of writing down strong impressions I get in my spirit, or my dreams, I begin to learn as events happen how everything fits in together. I begin to see the associations and comparisons God uses to talk to me, and it builds on to my revelation. (Look at my article on associations and comparisons for more information on that)

Progressive revelation is well documented in scripture. An example of how God can progressively reveal things to you as you step out in faith can be seen in Joshua 7. There came a time where the Israelites lost a battle because the Lord had said they should not touch or take the spoil. A breach happened because one man called Achan decided to go against this instruction of the Lord, touched the unclean thing, and people started dying because of his sin.

Now, Joshua did not receive the revelation all at once that it was Achan, instead, God progressively revealed to him who was behind this breach in Israel. The bible says “Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel by their tribes and the tribe of Judah was taken” At this point, Joshua still does not know it is Achan, he picks up that it is someone from the tribe of Judah.

The revelation then progresses because after that in Joshua 7:17 he then calls out the family of the Zorites. This is how God will often reveal, not everything is always revealed at one go. What happened next was that he began to call forth man by man within the family of the Zorites and a man called Zabdi was chosen. This is where the word is becoming clearer to Joshua. You should never give up on a word because you do not know all the details, stay with it until the Lord gives you the next detail of the word. Ultimately, in Joshua 7:18, Joshua once more brings forth man by man from the household of Zabdi and the culprit Achan, the son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah is singled out!

Looking at the whole experience, if it was today, people would have thought Joshua is not a true prophet. But this is a great example of how revelation can be progressive. You could be feeling the same way, that you only seem to hear God up to a certain point before you are stuck. You dream dreams but are not able to interpret them. You see visions but cannot understand them. You might feel like you lack the anointing for revelation and prophecy. But the truth is that what you lacked was not the anointing or righteousness, what you needed was an understanding of how to unlock your full potential. The key in this regard is to understand progressive revelation. I keep stressing that prophecy is not the ability to know people’s names, their birthdates, address, etc., although I have shared how that can be done by the power of the Spirit of God, but rather, it is understanding and sharing the mind of God. Never allow such details and specifics discourage you in your pursuit to hearing God more clearly.

So bit by bit, letter by letter, precept upon precept, appreciate that God moves progressively in your life. Even in your faith, convictions, and understanding of truths, I hope that you have been progressing over the years and that you are not at the same place you were in when you first came to the Lord. Love, light, and progression to you!

Day 12: You and the anointing

The anointing makes it easier to do things. This may be things done spiritually or things done physically. It is often seen as an external boost of the sort upon a person, but I would rather see it as a power that removes limitations. The bible often uses oil as a symbol of the anointing. The oil is not the anointing itself, but it serves as a relevant symbol in how the anointing works. It is there to remove friction when one is performing a spiritual or physical activity. Let us look at a few bible scriptures that speak about the oil as a symbol of the anointing first, and we will get to this point of how the prophetic anointing can assist you in hearing God.

The first scripture I would like to look at is 1 Samuel 16:13 which says “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.” The oil was smeared upon David but it was the Spirit of the Lord that rushed upon David from that day forward. The oil was symbolic of the anointing.

Let us also look at 1 Kings 19:16 “And Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint to be king over Israel, and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint to be prophet in your place.” In this instance, the Prophet Elijah is instructed to smear oil on Jehu to be king and Elisha to be a prophet. The oil in itself is merely symbolic of the actual anointing. And God used oil intentionally as a symbol of a friction or limitation remover.

David needed the anointing to remove any limitations he could have had in fulfilling his role as a king, Jehu also needed the anointing to be a king and the bible says that Elisha also needed the anointing to be effective as a prophet. We have established that every Christian has the ability to hear God, it is a free gift from God. However, the limitations you are experiencing could be because you have not tapped into an anointing responsible for removing limitations related to hearing God.

You are probably wondering because we spoke about walking in love, the mind, the imagination, memories, and studying the word, but you are struggling to see how your limitations could possibly be removed still. It is as if you could have someone to teach you the specifics of how to really go about having God use all of your faculties to speak to you. I have your answer! You need anointing!

In the book of 1 John 2:27 the bible says “But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.” There is a limitation remover, a power that removes all ambiguity that may come with human teachers, and it is called the anointing!

You may feel at times that what I am sharing with you lacks in specifics in some areas, let me tell you, it is your anointing kicking inside of you, waiting for you to allow it to operate in your life. Some gaps in knowledge can only be closed by the teachings that come from the anointing that is upon your life. Not everything you know about God or about hearing His voice will come from a blog like this or from a book, some things you will be taught by the anointing that is upon your life.

The prophetic anointing comes progressively. And so as a result these limitations you may experience in hearing God will be lifted progressively. When God trusts you with a word, obey that initial word. And word afterword you will begin to grow in your ability to hear Him. Just as Isaiah 28:10 says “Line by line, precept by precept, here a little and there a little” the word of God often does not come all at once, but you must obey and act on each word as it proceeds out of His mouth and comes to you.  That is how you will have limitations in hearing God gradually removed, and as such have more and more of this anointing operating in your life.

Day 11: God, associations, His voice and my memory

You may think your memory is not useful to God, but after that Day 10 segment on associations and comparisons, I hope you now see how God can use not just your imagination, but your memory too. The sum total of your memories resides in your soul. That is, memories are part of your soul. So when we say God can use your memories do not think of them as an entity on their own outside of your triune being.

When God speaks to you through associations and comparisons he will often take those associations and comparisons from this database of images and impressions we call your memory. Before someone says that is not ‘biblical’, the bible in John 14:29 says “He will bring all things to your remembrance” Most of the time the Spirit of God will speak to you from some kind of historical record in your memory that is relevant to what He wants to talk to you about at that present moment. From that memory, He will create the association and your role in all of this is to pay attention to these associations and extract the prophetic revelation.

By the Spirit of God, you are able to remember what you should remember when you need to remember it. So do not go around having anxiety that you will miss an association. If you are paying attention and take your memory as a tool in the hands of a Faithful God who wants to continuously talk with you and guide you, you will begin to understand these dynamics of deciphering between meaningless thoughts, and thoughts that seem random but have a prophetic implication. The attitude of your heart should be a yearning to hear Him and walk in love.

Most of the time you will know it is not you because you do not randomly think about certain things. For example, I wouldn’t randomly think about spinning numbers. But on one occasion, I was in front of a congregation of students. And when I looked at one young man, I saw a wheel with numbers on it spinning. I wouldn’t randomly think of a numbers-wheel in church. When I asked him if he loves numbers, and why I was seeing numbers spinning in front of him, he said he is studying Actuarial Science. And confirmed that he loved working with numbers.  The prophetic word for Him had to do with God using him in the area of financing the work of the Kingdom of God. And being a leader in commerce.

But you see? I knew and understood at that point that God was bringing that memory of a spinning number wheel from a game show I had watched years prior, to communicate something. You need to provide God a database from which He can pull from in order to speak with you. In my case, my past experience was a well from which He drew, but the best well from which God should pull from is scripture. When God begins to draw from your past experience, you should know that you lack enough scriptural reference in your memory for the Lord to speak to you in that area. You should read the word, study it, listen to it, commit it to memory, and let it be a part of your everyday speech! I may not always have the exact reference of scripture, but I have made it a point to commit a lot of scriptures to memory verbatim! I would highly recommend that you do this do!

David says “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11. Hide His word in your heart! Cram it! And you will see how it will assist you to not miss God’s directives. He will begin to use your memory to create associations and comparisons to communicate with you! Love and light to you! God bless you!

Day 10: How God uses associations and comparisons

Since the beginning of this series I have been nervous as to whether in sharing some of these things, I am not taking away their sacredness. In my limited experience, I have observed that once people perceive how simple it is to hear God, they make it simplistic. And they tend to lose touch with the sacredness of hearing from God. May this not be you! Hearing from God is a privilege He has availed to His children. We must approach His word and His presence with reverence. I am yet to learn how to share things related to hearing from God without feeling this way. So please pray for me. Now that I have that out of the way, let us continue from Day 9 where God revealed how our December will look like.

God is able to reveal things to us and in this article I want us to look into a few more ways in which God reveals. And since it is a Friday, I will not be too long. To start with, we know that in 1 Corinthians 2:10 Paul tells us that God reveals things to us. And later on in 1 Corinthians 2:13, he explains how God does this. In the New Heart English Bible, it reads this way “And we speak of these things, not with words taught by human wisdom, but with those taught by the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.” So from this, we gain an understanding that God can reveal things to us through comparison.

God teaches us through comparison and will often take something we are familiar with and compare it to something that is unfamiliar in order to make us understand what He is trying to say to us. I have heard some students of prophecy call this parabolic language. That is, God using parables to move us from the familiar to the unfamiliar. It is the power of dreams, prophetic riddles, and their interpretation. The power of the parabolic language is in its association. You see something in a symbolic way that you will associate with something that is relatable to you. The outcome of this being a prophetic revelation of a sort.

In University, I used to be part of a prayer group. It was a group of young men praying almost every night, and soon enough we began also sharing the word, imparting certain anointings over each other and prophesying. One night as I was sharing the mind of God with a visitor to the group. The Lord began talking about the side of this brother’s family. And I could see from his facial expression that the information did not make sense without knowing which side of the family I was referring to. The mother’s side of the family or the father’s side. At this point, I depended on God to reveal this information to me. My heart desperately yearned for this brother to understand this word. There was a set of keys on the table and the keyholder was pink. When my eyes were suddenly drawn to the pink keyholder, I knew it was the maternal side of his family. And when I said it, everything I was sharing with him began to fall into place and make perfect sense to him. That is the power of association and comparison that 1 Corinthians 2:13 alludes to!

In my daily life, I pay close attention to every clue that God gives to me because I know that He compares one thing with another. You also need to pay close attention to what God is revealing to you! Related to the prophetic, is the gift of word of knowledge. Whist still in university God began showing me people’s names, names of places, what their sickness was and where the pain was located on their body, etc. even more accurately. All of these come through associations and they may play themselves out in different ways.

Most of the time, if someone has a biblical name it is easier for me to know that detail by the spirit of God because I will suddenly get a Psalm of David for e.g. and I will know that I am talking to David. Or I will see a Stethoscope and I will know that they are either a Doctor, in Medicine somehow, or their name is Luke. There are ways in which you grow in your reliance on the Holy Spirit to be able to lean entirely on Him and share such details with others. I do not press for God to speak to me regarding an area of a person’s life, if I cannot hear anything from Him in that area. For example, If I do not get a person’s name, I move along to other areas of their life that the Lord might want to speak about, like finances, academics, ministry or marriage. Word of knowledge is NOT prophecy. I will share instances where there are exceptions, when we study gifts in depth.

Some do not believe these things are possible at all. The best way to see is to apply this information I am giving you, walk in love, and study the word of God. The bible says “Taste and see that the LORD is good” Psalm 34:8a. You have to be a word scientist! Study the word, draw hypothesis, practice it, observe and ensure it is repeatable! I can guarantee you though… Over and over again, you will see that God is faithful!

I will go deeper into Word of knowledge when we talk about the gifts of the Holy Spirit much later on in the series! I promised to be brief today, so let this be your take away… your prophetic revelation is going to come through association and comparison! I cannot stress the importance of reading and listening to the word of God enough if you want to hear Him accurately! Love and Light to you! Shalom.

Day 9: Seeing into the future – Dimensions of time

I want us to talk about seeing into the future. I managed to share some inspired words with you on Day 8 that I had written in 2018. Many of which we have since seen manifesting. It is what happens when the spirit of God touches our imagination. I believe every Christian can do it. It is very easy to perceive from such experiences how the bible came into being. God inspired men to write it by His spirit. In fact, 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”

As the church it was the spirit that gave us the book, it was not the book that gave us the spirit. That is why I said, we should not let the letters (vocabulary, theological customs, etc.) prevent us from fully catching on to what the spirit of the Lord is saying to us in this season. God wants His church, now more than ever, to be able to hear Him, even regarding the future.

Prophecy is not about the prediction of future events, it is about understanding and sharing the mind of God regarding a particular situation. It can be a past, present, or future event. God can share His mind to us about the past so that we understand what to do in the present and how to walk into the future that He has destined for us. He can share His mind regarding the present, in order to assist us in navigating the terrain of the now. And He may share His mind with us regarding the future in order to impart hope in us.

The body is limited in that it can only operate in the now, the spirit, and the soul, on the other hand, have the ability to travel back and forth through time. In God’s original plan however, the body was not constrained by time. And in God’s appointed time we will assume our immortal bodies again, but for the time being, you are able to access all the dimensions of time through your spirit and soul, although they would not be able to comprehend the time they are in without the assistance of the body.

If I asked you what you ate yesterday, who you were with, and where you got the food from, you will be able to travel back in time and begin to see what you saw yesterday and give me those details. This is because your spirit and soul have no time limitations. On Day 9 of this series, I want you to do an exercise with me. I want you to use your imagination and travel into the Month of December 2020. What do you see there? Do you like what you see and does it give you peace? How will your Christmas Day look like? What will you be doing on the 31st of December 2020?

If you are happy with where you are in December 2020 in that vision, I want you to try and live your present moment from that pleasant future. You should be able to lead from there, pray from there, and praise God from that future full of hope! If you cannot see anything or you do not like what you are seeing, then we need to do further exercise.

Why is your future looking so sombre and dreadful? Are you reading, listening to, and watching bad news and sad prophecies from doctors, economists, and business scientists the whole day? If you can only imagine doom and gloom you need to change the prophet you are currently listening to. You cannot expect News Reports and Market analysts to be prophets over your life! Time is not one dimensional. Listen to what a wise man says about the duality of time in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

“There is a time for everything,

and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2     a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3     a time to kill and a time to heal,

a time to tear down and a time to build,

4     a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5     a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

6     a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7     a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8     a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.

During this period in South Africa, where Covid19 infections are reaching their peak. A lot of people are losing their loved ones, companies are closing down, and dreams are being shattered. It is very understandable why someone might look at time in one dimension. Focusing on the time to weep, time to mourn, time to tear down, and a time for war. But that is not all there is to time. There is also another dimension of time. Where it is time to laugh, dance, gather stones, mend broken things, and enjoy the peace of God. I want you to project yourself into this dimension of time and live from there!

I want you to go back to my Facebook status for Day 9 and share with us what the Lord is showing you about your December 2020. You should start by being the prophet of your own life. The bible says “For as he thinketh in his heart [soul], so is he.”Proverbs 23:7. Think godly! My December 2020 will be full of great testimonies about the goodness of God! I will have a reason to dance, despite what is happening globally. I will be healthy and serving God freely! Begin to declare and see into the future!
